The atmosphere at Aula Selidah, Marabahan, was filled with excitement on May 25, 2026, as students, teachers, and local officials gathered for the Grand Final of the LearningRoom English Competition (LEC) 2026. The event marked the culmination of a large-scale digital English competition involving 62 junior high schools across Barito Kuala Regency.
A total of 30 student finalists from three competition categories, including English Quiz Competition, Speech & Storytelling Competition, and Singing Competition, took the stage after advancing through an online selection process joined by thousands of students via the LearningRoom platform.
The event showcased not only English proficiency, but also creativity, confidence, and public speaking skills, creating a lively and inspiring atmosphere throughout the competition.
The Grand Final of LEC 2026 fulfilled the aspirations of students in Barito Kuala Regency to take part in a competition that combines digital selection through a learning platform with live performances on stage.
Each category sharpened students’ English skills. In the Quiz Competition, participants had to showcase their knowledge and quick thinking in English.
Meanwhile, the Speech & Storytelling Competition challenged students to demonstrate public speaking abilities and creativity in delivering stories.
The Singing Competition provided a space to appreciate students’ interests and talents, allowing them to express their English skills through art and music.
Their performances grew even more vibrant with enthusiastic cheers from teachers and fellow participants, adding to the lively atmosphere of the competition from morning until midday.
The Regent of Barito Kuala, Dr. H. Bahrul Ilmi, S.H., M.H., expressed his appreciation for the implementation of LEC 2026, which he considered successful in creating a more active learning atmosphere and building students’ confidence.
“We truly appreciate initiatives like this because they encourage students to be brave, to perform, and to showcase their abilities. This is a positive step in preparing a younger generation that is more ready to face global challenges,” he said during the Grand Final.
Echoing this sentiment, the Head of the Barito Kuala Education Office, Mas Aryansyah, S.ST., M.Kom., emphasized that the digital-based approach in this competition is part of the region’s educational transformation.
“LEC is not just a competition, but also an effort to build a learning culture that is more active, creative, and adaptive to technological developments,” he stated.
Unlike conventional competitions, the entire preliminary selection process of LEC 2026 was conducted online through the LearningRoom platform. This technology-driven approach provided a more interactive learning experience while encouraging students to actively use English in various real-life contexts.
Perwakilan LearningRoom, Ubaidillah Akbar, Head of Business PT 8 Elements, menyampaikan bahwa kompetisi LearningRoom English Competition (LEC) dirancang bukan sekedar mencari pemenang, tetapi juga membangun pengalaman belajar yang lebih bermakna bagi siswa.
“Kami ingin menghadirkan pembelajaran yang membuat siswa lebih aktif, berani tampil, dan percaya diri menggunakan Bahasa Inggris. Kompetisi LEC adalah salah satu cara kami agar proses belajar bisa lebih menyenangkan sekaligus relevan dengan kebutuhan masa depan,” ujarnya.
Ia juga menambahkan bahwa kolaborasi dengan pemerintah daerah menjadi langkah penting dalam memperluas akses pembelajaran digital di sekolah.
Penyelenggaraan LEC 2026 mencerminkan semakin berkembangnya pemanfaatan teknologi dalam dunia pendidikan, khususnya dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Terlebih dengan adanya keputusan dari Kementerian Pendidikan Dasar dan Menengah yang menetapkan Bahasa Inggris sebagai mata pelajaran wajib bagi siswa jenjang Sekolah Dasar (SD) dan Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI), mulai kelas 3 dan segera berlaku pada tahun ajaran 2027/2028.
Di tengah meningkatnya kebutuhan keterampilan komunikasi global, pendekatan pembelajaran berbasis digital dan aktivitas kompetitif dinilai mampu meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa sekaligus memperkuat kesiapan generasi muda menghadapi era globalisasi.
