Strengthening English proficiency from an early age is becoming a key priority in preparing future talent for Indonesia’s tourism sector. In North Lombok, a region known for its international destinations such as the Gili Islands, local authorities are taking concrete steps to equip students with the language skills needed to compete globally.
Through a collaboration with the North Lombok Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports Office, LearningRoom is supporting schools in adopting digital English learning to better prepare students for real-world communication challenges
The initiative was implemented through a technical training program on digital English learning media, held on April 16, 2026, at the Dikbudpora Hall in North Lombok, involving school principals and English teachers from both elementary and junior high levels.
The program aligns with the regional government’s vision to develop high-quality human resources, especially in areas with strong tourism potential. With international visitors playing a significant role in the local economy, English is increasingly seen as a foundational skill for future opportunities.
Beyond academic purposes, early English education is widely recognized for improving communication skills, confidence, and long-term career readiness—particularly in globally connected industries like tourism.
Head of the North Lombok Education Office, Muhammad Najib, S.Pd., M.Pd, emphasized that the program reflects a broader strategy to prepare students for both higher education and the workforce.
“This initiative is part of our effort to prepare young generations with strong English skills from an early stage. We want students in North Lombok to be ready for future careers and educational opportunities,” he stated.
He also highlighted the importance of English proficiency in accessing global opportunities, including scholarships and international academic pathways.
Chair of the Junior High School Principals Association (MKKS) in North Lombok, H. Ahmad Munadi, M.Pd., welcomed the initiative and emphasized its alignment with current educational needs.
“This program is highly beneficial and deserves full support. It aligns with existing regulations and can be integrated into school funding mechanisms, as it directly benefits students,” he said.
By integrating digital tools into teaching, educators are better equipped to create adaptive learning environments that match students’ needs and learning pace.
LearningRoom representative, Mokh. Zidny Fadlan (Senior B2G Sales Manager), highlighted the importance of collaboration between local governments and education technology providers in creating sustainable impact.
“We believe that access to the right learning tools can open significant opportunities for students. Through this collaboration, we aim to support schools in delivering more interactive and future-relevant learning experiences.”
LearningRoom provides a digital platform that allows students to learn independently through interactive materials, competency-based exercises, and adaptive learning approaches tailored to diverse educational contexts.
This initiative reflects a broader national shift toward integrating technology into education and strengthening English proficiency as a global skill.
With plans to make English a compulsory subject in primary and secondary education by 2027, programs like this play a crucial role in preparing schools for a more competitive and globally connected education system.
