The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations emphasize the importance of quality education (SDG 4) as a foundation for improving people’s lives and sustainable development worldwide. To achieve those goals, English proficiency contributes to improving the quality of education by accessing global knowledge and resources. This is in line with the educational conditions in Indonesia, so it is the reason why English is important. For example, Kurikulum Merdeka makes English lessons mandatory, Indonesian English literacy continues to decline, and globalization in the industrial world is highly competitive which requires English language skills to be a fundamental thing. This event explores strategies and practices to effectively transform education systems to meet these goals.

Dr. Sanjoyo, an expert in macroeconomic policy and development planning, holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Indonesia and a Master's in Development Economics from the Australian National University. With over 30 years of experience, he has served in key positions at Bappenas, including Director of Population, Women Empowerment, and Child Protection. Currently, he is the Manager of the Social Development Pillar at the National SDGs Secretariat, Bappenas, where he oversees the implementation and monitoring of sustainable development goals (SDGs).
